The team relies on the Hubei Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regionalization established in 1988, the Hubei Workstation of the National Key Laboratory of Remote Sensing Archaeology established in 2001, and the Wuhan Branch Center of the Remote Sensing Application Center of the Ministry of Agriculture (11 sub-centers in China) established in 2009 to carry out scientific research. The main research fields include agricultural remote sensing technology, land resources remote sensing technology and agricultural information technology. The team currently has 19 members, 17 of whom have doctoral degrees, 2 professors and 7 associate professors. In the past five years, it has undertaken five projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, one project of the National 863 Program, one project of the 973 Program, one project of the National Science and Technology Infrastructure Platform of the Ministry of Science and Technology and a large number of projects serving local social and economic construction, with research funds of nearly 15 million yuan. Thirteen software copyrights of the State Copyright Administration have been obtained in the fields of crop identification and information extraction methods and technologies based on remote sensing, agricultural production estimation information system, land resources monitoring methods and technologies. In 2012, as a major participant, "Key Technologies Research and Operational Application of Remote Sensing Monitoring for Major Crops" (2012-J-251-2-04-D01) won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress.
